Australia’s government said that a rival government has been launching repeated attacks against it for months. Officials gave few details on the nature of the attacks, but experts say they believe China is the culprit.
Shortly after the Australian announcement, China’s foreign ministry denied any involvement in the attacks, saying that any suggestion they were involved was due to misinformation from the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI), a think-tank.
While the Australian government admits that the attackers have gained widespread access to systems belonging to government, industry, political organisations, education, health, essential service providers and operators of other critical infrastructure, they claim that those attackers have not yet attempted any damage or disruption.
